View Full Version : Top Gear - Highest Speed Ever (but not best lap time)

Well, the LP640 did it. Well, sort of.

It hit 207 mph on the track, the highest speed they have ever attained in a car on their track.

On the other hand, in relatively dry conditions, it only came in 6th on the lap with the Stig, tied with the CGT, 1.4 seconds below the Koenigsegg, and 0.8 sec below the Enzo.

So, the top of the heap, at least on their track still is:

Koenigsegg
Zonda F
Maserati MC12
Ferrari Enzo
Ariel Atom
Lamborghini Murcielago LP640

Clarkson had his typical obnoxious things to say about it (not being a Ferrari, of course). He thought that Audi had made the car boring. The car did look impressively fast when driven by the Stig.

He kept referring to it as a hyper car, not a super car. Yeah, whatever.

I like watching Top Gear but it gets a little old listening to Clarkson bad mouthing everything, and not just Lamborghini; he's like the Simon Cowell of Top Gear, and a hypocrite too, how can you talk all that smack about Lambo and then buy a G spyder?

The 640 looks sweet though, love that sound; I need two more cylinders. :)

I was amusing seeing him turn green when Kristen Scott Thomas (who he lusts after) thought the G was an uncool car.

I liked the video. Cool, but why's he got to bad mouth them. Geez.

I think they could mix it up a bit on the camera effects too, they're going a little overboard on the zoom in rapidly and slow down thing, it's starting to give me motion sickness like I'm watching MTV Cribs. I'd rather the whole episode just be the stig racing different cars around the track, those are my favorite parts; best episode ever was that Renault F1 race car, that was so incredible hearing him go through the gears.

I do give them some credit, as they are some of the few people on earth to have driven multiple true exotics. But they do lose credibility with the bias.

Clarkson does crack me up sometimes, though.

Well, I'm generally not using them on weekdays. Could you return at least one of them before Friday night?

Does Clarkson have any racing background? I've always liked Top Gear better as a show but Fifth Gear better when Tiff does an in-car; Tiff gives you a good explanation of what the car is doing and what it should be doing while Clarkson gives you more of the John Madden play by play, lots of BAM's and woohoo's.

Clarkson actually really like the G-spyder, I remember coming home and watching the review again after my ride in yours and agreeing with everything he said. He finds fault with every car he drives, some of them are just a bigger deal. Like when he said the Ferrari 430 was ugly. Or the Zonda looks stupid, he can't help but acknowledge their performance figures.

And he really doesn't have much racing background, Tiff is a much, much better driver. But he's boring to watch, IMO.

What episode did Clarkson say the F430 is ugly?

Last I checked, he loved it?

I believe it was the episode where he first reviewed it, something along the lines of "It's not the prettiest Ferrari made, with it's fiddly rear end", or similar.

Hmmm, I don't remember that part, but oh well. Not a big issue ;)

Clarkson is quite the ferrari guy. But at least he likes lambos too which brings back SOME of the credit he lost for being so into Fcars

Whatever happened with his Ford GT? I lost track of if there was an issue or he just got tired of the doors, etc..

Yeah, it lived in the shop. Then he dumped it.

I saw a GTX1 at Sebring at New Years, that thing was a beast, guy and his wife drove up to do a track day in it from somewhere in South FL, I thought that was cool that his wife was into it too:

I think he was in the painters tape business: :lol2: :lol2:

Clarkson bought the GT, sent it to the shop, shop didn't fix it, sold it back to Ford, bought it from Ford (again), sent to shop, got it back, sent it to the shop, sold it, ordered a Gallardo Spyder.
