I always meant to follow up on this but never did, so here's the question. Why is the drivetrain loss so huge on the Diablo? let me be more specific,
the Diablo SV. A 535hp model to put down 400hp come out to > 25% loss.

that's awful. Cars with auto transmissions do better than that.
Sooo, how about it, anyone want to tackle this technically?

Are the Murcie's and Gallardo's any better??

:)

I think G-Force (Wayne) has said his TT Gallardo is making about 700 HP and Car & Driver reports an 11.4 second quarter mile time. Normally an 11.4 second 1/4 for a 3575 pound car would be about 600 crank horsepower with I think the calculation being done with an expectation of 18% loss, so it sounds like the Gallardo is inline with this figure.

But is 25% unusual for an AWD car? I've seen some Veyron HP calculations that were using 23+% loss and it's AWD too with a much more refined transmission setup.

I would buy the 25% loss to the rear wheels for the Diablo VT, but the SV is rear wheel drive.
18 % loss for the gallardo is not bad at all. Which brings me back to my original question: Why such a huge power loss and it seems that audi has made some improvements. Would be nice to what they did and if these improvements can be retrofitted.:)

Ah, yes good point, I was thinking VT, 25% seems very high; are you getting the 400hp from a dyno test? Had it been tuned recently so it's reasonable to assume it's producing 535 at the crank?

Car is properly tuned, and 535 hp is correct, and it seems that this is common amongst Diablos. Talk about inefficiency :banghead:

535hp-400hp??

Can it really be true?

Im mean, at the risk of sounding like a complete tw*t - does that mean it takes 135hp just to turn the transmission components - can't be surely!?

135hp loss - what happens to that energy - heat mostly I presume?

Just seems ridiculous!

it should be no more than a 15% loss for a 2 wd vehicle,i always was curious too about that.

I'm going to guess that the engine isn't putting out the advertised 535.

On which car (model year) did this 400HP get measured? Do you have the dyno sheets? And lastly, what brand / model was the dyno?
