i was wondering if any murci owners ever experienced or heard of a problem like this and possibly tell me whats going on . as of late ( last week or so ) after i really get on the car for a prolonged period of time the check engine light comes on and the car makes a hollowed out pinging sound and losses power . i have an appt. at lambo long island but not untill the 2nd week of june . looks like the car is going into some kind of safety mode and cutting the power . if i drive it normal the car is fine , its only after racing around for a lil while . the mech . at lambo said on the phone if you can restrain yourself and drive normally , do so . if not , do not drive the car . anyone ever heard of a problem like this or can tell me maybe whats up ? thanks ...
Never heard of that. I'd go with what Lambo is saying and give the car a rest. Might not be serious, but it definitely doesn't sound good.

I would not drive the car until its checked , It may be Missfiring or some engine issue , that is why you go to limp mode. How does the engine sound??? Normal or it has a different tune??

I think I've heard of this behavior occurring if one of the throttle bodies is not working correctly; regardless, don't drive it anymore until it's been checked out. :)
don't drive it anymore
Just what every lambo owner wants to hear I'm sure :lol2:
but its probably for the best. Thats a large investment, and if the engine takes a shit it'll cost some big bucks to replace.

Happened to me on my ferrari , drove it and had engine failure with a $25,000 repair bill

case & point.
But then, that WAS on a ferrari, so $24k of that was probably labor. :lol2:

the car is backfiring a little . it has a muffeled sound to it when this occurs , almost sounds like somthing is jammed in the tailpipe . keep in mind that i just had the quicksilver exhaust installed only a few weeks ago and 2 of the 4 cats are out . for some reason i am thinking it has to do with the exhaust being installed , but i had brought it to a performance shop mech and he said it is not an exhaust issue . as i said the car goes to lambo LI on the 2nd week of june .

Agree w/ everyone's recommendation here. Get a tow truck and let your trust worth Ltech do what they do best.

you think that this is directly related to an exhaust issue with the new system and 1/2 the cats gone and all ?

I don't think you can rule that out, for now.
Temporally, it's damning. But, could just be a coincidence.
I'm in the "Don't drive it until it's looked at" camp.

driving it is asking for trouble...it's hard not to but a lot harder to spend much more $$ on repairs

Joe,
What was the final outcome of this issue?

As an ex Murcie owner, I should really be able to add something meaningful but since I only put on 35 miles on it before getting bored, it made me Murcie "il-literate". Hope the outcome of your findings was palatable and non-serious

What the car is doing is called "LIMP MODE"..
The computer automaticaly shuts the car down to reduced power. When you experiance LIMP MODE you should not operate the car any further.
MOST common cause for this is that the computer is seeing RAW gas in the cats and not buring all the gas correctly, which in turn cause extreme heat in the cats, that can cause them to BURN out and cause severe damage to your car.
With the NEW exhaust I can almost bet you that the installer that removed the rear cats did it incorrectly and/or failed to hook the correct sensors back up to the new exhaust.
Did they install test tubes, straight pipes...??

got the car back 2 weeks ago . it was my fault actually . i guess washing the car one time , i got water in the engine somehow . dont ask me how .... maybe the side vents ? lambo told me that there was water in one of the cylinders and was causing the issue . dont ask me how the hell that happens . i had the 15k mile service done as well while it was there . anyway the car runs great now and i couldnt be happier . the car was running in limp mode and that was frustrating as hell . car sounded and ran like shit ........
as far as the exhaust goes it was the sport exhaust by quicksilver where 2 of the 4 cats are out . car is loud as shit , but i love it that way . my mech. said i must have lost 50lbs in weight in the change and the performance is noticable . the quad pipe set up i love as well .... looks and sounds mean as hell

I want to see some video with the new exhaust on! :headbang:
Water "in" the cylinder sounds odd, it would burn off in seconds if water actually did enter the intake. My understanding of what can sometimes happen is water sits on top of the engine and can collect in places it shouldn't be, like the spark plug area, causing a short.

I was going to say that it sounded like your coil packs...which are very common to either get water in or have malfunction on the earlier Murcie's. Getting water in your engine bay is easy...especially with the open louvers on the engine cover. You should cover your engine when you wash the car, as well as control the direction of your spray when rinsing. I wash mine on an uphill in my driveway, I've found even this helps.
Beware though, if you did get water in your coil packs, you coud be looking at another issue down the road...as they rust over time and simply malfunction....then the car goes into limp mode and you're out your car while waiting for parts...which, the coil packs have been on back order for some time now....UGH !!!
Good luck!!

:stupid:
The water definitely sounds more like a coil pack issue.
Ditto regarding the washing. I know it sounds silly, but cover the engine when washing it, or just do something like Kevin suggested to keep the water out of it.
Just don't forget about the engine cover and drive the car. Almost did that once. Wouldn't have ended well.

What if you get caught in the rain? What about all that water that will get onto the engine?
What about people that race lamborghinis in major races and it rains and they continue the race?
If water shouldnt get onto the engine why would lamborghini leave the engine exposed to rain???

I think its more from when you wash the car and you spray water from the rear, it can get in through the vents, if you're moving it will just sheet off

I'm sure due to the high speeds that very little water has a chance to make its way into the engine. Plus race cars are modified and i'm sure they've probably thought of a solution for this.

Not so much the rain that causes this, usually just from washing, when people accidentally spray water in through the rear slats.

The issue is that while you're washing it, the water pools on the cold engine and gets into things it shouldn't. In the rain, in a race, etc. the engine is going to evaporate water that hits it nearly instantaneously since it's running. But yeah, the fact that it can pool around the coils is stupid because you'd have the same issue if you left the car sitting in the rain.
