So I couldn't get down to Wine Country Motorsports this weekend during their hours (why no Sunday hours????), even though I was down the block from the store. So I had them ship me an Arai in XXL so that I could see which fits better, the XL or the XXL.
Now I haven't tried on the XXL with my Balaclava yet, but it is slightly loose. Not loose enough to fall off by any wild stretch of the imagination, but still a little loose. And the XL is slightly tight (I think too tight for me to tolerate, unfortunately - I hate when my brains are squeezed out of my ears). So, I'm in Goldilocks territory looking for just right.
I'm going to try them both on again today and make a decision.
Nothing is ever easy.
Great visibility out of the GP-5W model. I really do like that extra large opening.

IF the XXL is too loose, maybe take the pads out of the XL and lay a cinderblock on top of them for a night to compress them a bit? I'm not that familiar with that helmet though so I don't know how thick the pads are to begin with.

They're pretty thick, but I'll look at them some more later. They are removable, but I haven't tried to do that yet.

Call a voodoo doctor and get your head shrunk. :) I thought only Corvette drivers had big heads? :lol2:

It's 1 ml cerebral volume / IQ point. Normal density.

Brain cells don't regenerate correct? I sure feel a lot less intelligent now than when I was in college; maybe it's just the tv shows I watch. I have a big head though, so my brain must be decreasing in density. :lol2:

Yeah, brain cells don't regenerate. If you bump your head you lose on average ten to twenty of them, or so I've been told. You have in the billions though, so I'm not too worried just yet.

So that begs the question; are boxers stupid to begin with or do they end up that way?

Depends. Do hockey players have perfect smiles before they start playing? :D

I would consider a different brand if you aren't happy with the fit. HJC or MQ are nice helmets.

Actually, with the Balaclava on, the XXL fits well. So I cancelled the voodoo appt., and don't play hockey any longer. The XL will go back.
I know that the HJC or MQ are fine helmets. Just a little superstition after hearing that the Hampster survived 314mph crash, landing on his head, wearing a Arai.
Hey, I wonder if I can wear my hockey helmet on the track.

Zzzzdoc, no one will ever claim you are not safety-conscious! :) Interesting question though; I've heard it is a good idea to keep a tool of some sort in the car for use in shattering the window if you were in a roll over in an upward-opening doored vehicle, but track day rules typically require you to remove all items from the car; maybe they'll make an exception?

I figure that I'll just turn off the A/C and open up a window at that point. Otherwise, my God it's brutally hot down here, I'll just do hot laps with the A/C on.
Interesting Mythbusters where they tested that tool, BTW. It really does work almost instantly under water.
I could always attach a spring loaded center punch on my keychain - no loose parts, and works just as well.
Should have seen the look on my wife's face when she walked into my den and saw me watching Jay Leno with a helmet on.

You're actually required to have the windows down while on track. The keychain idea is good, that would work.

But the A/C won't work well with the windows open. Can I bring a portable unit? Let the hose hang out the window. I mean people spontaneously combust down here in the summer.

Just remove the windshield, works great in the Radical.
