View Full Version : Cat bypass too loud for a spyder?

Was talking to Shuey2k about exhaust systems and what I am thinking about doing on my G (straight pipes w/cat delete & custom racing mufflers) and he thought it might be annoyingly loud with me having a convertible that spends most of its time with the top down. Anyone have thoughts on that? With the windows up at 80+ mph I can still easily talk to a passenger, I'm not sure if I'd be willing to give that up.

Yes, and I prefer to live with a girl in my passenger seat that I can talk to versus hearing damage. :lol2:

The best thing about that mod. is that you wont have to listen to her BS while driving. Lol

I think on a Spider that would be too loud , they already have a very nice sound. What about that switch you unplug behind the rear grill??? I have heard It improves sound a lot.

If you pull that tube to disable the bypass valve it stays always open, but that basically just gets you the louder sound at low revs. I need to get in there and do that for the time being. :)

so how about just a regular hamman exhaust WITHOUT the cat delete?

That would work too but I want maximum power increase, but not if it makes the car annoying to drive.

my tuner says they sound kinda shitty without the cats (plus wont the exhust smell more like raw fuel without the cats??)

I am running just cats and no mufflers on mine, its rather loud ( i.e. really fucking loud) and I wouldnt recommend it for the Spyder.

You're right on about that; Shuey did say on a previous car with no cats, you'd start it up and the whole garage would stink of fuel for quite a while. :)
