That's why I don't sweat the day-to-day stuff. Though I do jump in and make quick profits the day after massive declines. A strategy that has worked for 20+ years. When the panic is palpable, ones who own brass ones make big bucks.

Enjoy your drink. As you well know, as always, Chicken Little was wrong.

Kids are too young for complex financial discussions. Maybe they can take their change and buy some bubble gum.

I've actually made it a point over the years to look for people saying/posting, "OMG, what should I do?" The maximum pain theory, although a little early in the game. Clear heads do well when others are panicking around you. Something I got good at by doing trauma over the years. Personally, I don't have the temperment for doing this full time. I can see chugging Maalox and Nexium. I'm more interested in long-term, strategic planning. I won't get rich fast. Hopefully will get rich slow.

My best friend is the opposite. He turned $50K into $5M on one stock and had the sense to sell before the dot com bubble burst. More importantly, he is smart enough to have invested conservatively since then, and has seen things grow even more. Not many people can take that much risk on a flyer, and then turn off the risk-taking behavior. Pretty special when I think about it.

Oh, and I prefer Macallan 25, FWIW. Something about the Sherry casks makes it wonderfully smooth.

BTW, Tom. Did you make a few bucks over the last day and a half?

I try to avoid discussing things I know nothing about; thanks dad. :)

I just make sure that 30% of my monthly income goes to my retirement planner who worries about these things for me. With as much as I work, I would only have enough time to lose money if I tried managing my own investments.

your contribution is consistently valuable......we were just astounded to have been able to dodge under the radar screen for over a day but in the end, Ben was right.....

on the contrary, it's been a bad month....

in fact, it's been a pissed poor past 18 months. i am getting pretty consistent at either being on the wrong side of the market on the right day or the right side of the market on the wrong day (or wrong time of the day) :banghead:.

at this rate, i will be moving in with one of my kids LOL

Where is the hope? When should I call it quits and sell all? When I've lost 50%? I think I've had about a 35% loss now.:(

Tom... I just read this joke. Made me think of you. Hope you don't take any offense.

Tom and his wife are having hard financial times, so they decide she'll become a hooker. She's not quite sure what to do, so Tom says, "Stand in front of that bar and pick up a guy. Tell him a hundred bucks. If you've got a question, I'll be parked around the corner.

"She's not there five minutes when a guy pulls up and says, "How much?

She says, "A hundred dollars." He says "Shit. All I've got is thirty.
" She says,"Hold on."
She runs back to Tom and says, "What can he get for thirty dollars?"
Tom says, "A hand job".She runs back and tells the guy all he gets for
thirty dollars is a hand job.
He says okay, she gets in the car, he unzips his pants, and out pops
a simply HUGE male unit. She stares at it for a minute, and then
says, "I'll be right back."

She runs back around the corner and says breathlessly, "TOM, can you lend this guy seventy bucks."

No kidding.... I finally bought some stock today. I figured while things are down, it's a good time to get in. I'm not taking advise from friends for the time being.
