Anyone been to somewhere truly unique, such as Egypt, Easter Island, Stonehenge, etc.? I have an interest in places like those where there are man-made (supposedly :) ) structures that still baffle scientists as to just how ancient man could have created them. I've yet to travel to anywhere that would qualify, most unusual probably would have been an old temple in Mexico where I guess they played a game involving the severed heads of enemies. :lol2:

Well not sure if it counts, but here goes. I've been to 48 states, excluding Maine and Hawaii. Been to Russia, Canada, and Mexico.

Lived in Anchorage Alaska for 5.5 years. So some people think that is a weird location. Saw the Aurora Borealis and all the Glaciers and what not.

Banff National Park in Edmonton, Alberta Province of Canada: http://www.pc.gc.ca/pn-np/ab/banff/index_e.asp
Wifey hasn't seen this place, but I have sworn to take here there one day. It is truly amazing. Breath-taking.

One of the weirdest places is in Tennessee, can't remember the name completely. But the caverns under Look-Out Mountain in Knoxville Tennessee. Walked extensively around that place.

Had a congressional Tour of the White House.
Had a congressional Tour of the FBI Building (DAMN!!!! the stolen shit they have there!!!!!!!)
Had a congressional Tour of the Senate, and took the underground rail for the senators building to the senate. Then got escorted by one of the Senators lackeys. These three tours you need to know someone that's a Senator to go on them. They take you to additional places that the normal torus don't take you to.

Used to work on Boilers, so I went into some strange places of Disney World, and Seaworld Orlando. So I've been up in the roofs of the Grand Floridian resort, volcano of Polynesian Resorts, and basements. Been on the top of the Shark Tank in the shark exhibit at Seaworld. Been to Discovery Cove, seen how the animals are really treated behind the scenes at Seaworld and Discovery Cove.

Blah, blah, blah.

Not sure if any of that qualifies as weird, maybe kinda cool in my mind.

Fun trips I have taken:

10 days sailing around the Greek isles in a 45 ft saliboat, lottsa ruins, plus nude beaches, and great clubbing opportunites.

New years in Rio de Janeiro

Bicylce trip thru Tuscany, car trip thru Umbria, a few days in Roma

Bicycle trip thur the Cotswolds in England, cylcling up to Stonehenge was awesome, finished up that one in London and Amsterdam.

Three weeks in Peru, hiking the Inca trail to Machu Picchu, camping high in the Andes, sleeping hard in poor villages with no electricity, running water etc. This was my favorite trip of all time, but do it when you are young....

A month in Egypt, seeing the regular sites, plus camping in the Sahara desert, plus scuba diving in the red sea. Second favourite.

Three weeks in Turkey, best Roman/Greek ruins believe it or not, sailing for 10days on the Turkish riviera, good times for sure.

Snowboarding at Las Lenas Argentina in the month of August, above the tree line in the Andes, finished up in Buenos Aires, fantastic time!

Great white shark cage dive trip in Mexico

From Russia with love, Moscow and St. Petersburg and a few days at the end in Berlin and Amsterdam.

This thread is bringing back some fond memories.....Pick a place and go for it.

Next stop for me is southeast Asia; Thailand, Cambodia(angkor wat!) Vietnam. Leaving next month.

Lived in turkey for two years, vroom is right, some AMAZING ruins there. turqoise coast is beautiful. When i moved from turkey i DROVE back to england. took a ferry from izmir i believe came into venice, stayed for two nights in venice then drove through italy (i love italy, i'll own a vineyard in tuscany one day), through the french alps into france, two days in paris then drove to calais and got on the ferry to england. All in all the trip took the best part of two weeks as we made a lot of stops. really a great trip.

Living in europe for most of my life, i've been to most european countries at some point. Greece, went snowboarding in germany every year, love germany too. made trips to france for the weekends every other month or so.

Obviously i've done most of england, stonehenge honestly is nothing special. Its just like "oh cool... stonehenge. look how big it is! amazing! ok lets go."

I'm very jealous of you guys, I want to travel really bad but there's just no way for me to do it for the time being with my job. I'm not much of a roughing it type though so no camping in the mountains with no electricity. :) I would love to roam all over Europe, seeing the sights and eating local foods, etc. That's probably what my #1 vacation idea would be if I could go.

Vroom, I had a friend just do the trip you're about to go on, he said it was incredible; his included Japan.

This reminds me of an old clip from the game show "Newly Wed" where the host, Bob Eubanks asked a contestant

Bob: "What was the most unusual place you've had sex w/ your husband?"

Contestant: "In the b*tt, Bob" :banghead:

I haven't ever been anywhere really intersting. A couple of caves in Virginia/Carolinas, went to Graceland with my parents (yay), and that's about it.

I'm a huge history buff, so Europe is my ideal destination. I'd also like to visit Japan and some parts of Africa.

My best friend and college roommate is from Kenya, he's been trying to get me to go back there to experience it every time he goes. One of these days I will, the pictures look awesome.

Vroom, how long you going for? And are you traveling in any unusual way or just plane from one place to the next? I can't wait to see some pics, I have to vacation vicariously through all of you. :)

Thats why you got an e-gear. Pussy.

I will be gone 2.5 weeks. Flying into Bangkok and still trip planning the rest. I have a cousin that lives in Jakarta, I am hoping she will tag along for some of the trip and do some leg work too. This will be the first time to the far east, really amped up for it.

Mike, I'm going to ban you for having too many cars and having been to too many places. :lol2: :lol2:

Absolutely amazing. And you know you can't type "THAT IS A WEIRD PLACE" without further explanation. :)

How were the twin towers? My dad went to the top of one of them a while back and said it was a weird feeling, if you weren't actually feeling the building sway, your mind made you think you were. (I think the tops actually did move up to 8 feet or something in strong winds)

They did by design to withstand high wind.....It was a very strange feeling to stand right at the base and looked up to see it swaaaay back and forth. Architectural mavel for sure...

FYI the twin towers was based on an exterior skeleton. That is why is had minimal amounts of columns on the inside. It was to free up more space.
