Being new to all this, is he hitting all of the gears when down-shifting to keep the revs up or in case he needs to be at the right rpm for acceleration in case something were to happen with another car, etc.? I was thinking with a normal gear box (not sequential) you could skip a gear on the way down with heel toe and heavy braking since you're going to be shedding quite a bit of speed in a short distance.
