View Full Version : Single Malt Scotch
Anyone else into Single Malts? I love the deep smoky, peaty malts the best.
Some of My top picks (in no order):
Lagavulin 16 (Islay Region)
Macallan 12 (Speyside)
Oban 14 (Western Highlands)
Ardbeg Uigeadail(Islay Region)

If you like a smoky flavor try Bowmore legends. A friend got me a bottle as a gift, and it is seriously the best I've ever had. Not the most expensive, so that might be a turn off to some lambo owners, but the flavor is great. I'd drink it over Blue Label any day.

I much prefer sherry cask single malts over smokey, peaty varieties. Here are some of my favorites:
Macallan 25 (haven't tried 30, but it must be fantastic)
Macallan 18 (sensing a pattern here)
Glenmorangie 18
Balvenie Single Cask (Good solid Highland)
Lagavulin 16 (is that still available?. Very peaty and smokey, but a fine scotch nonetheless)
Talisker 18 (good, but not my favorite)
Macallan Fine Oak 18 (not as good as the pure sherry casks, but a suitable substitute on a desert island)
Laphroaig 18 (A fine Islay scotch for a change of pace)
Here's a great article explaining how these all have become hard to find, due to distilleries lack of vision as to single malt's popularity 20 years ago.

I'd choose Macallan over the others in a heartbeat, but I truly do love the true aged Sherry cask aged single malts.

When I worked at Texas de Brazil, we had a bottle of Macallan in the special case, the number on the outside said "150" and it was $500 an ounce. Apparently it's really good?

I've heard of Bowmore. Will definitely give it a try.

I just bought a Lagavulin 16 about a month ago. Of course it's gone now. :icon_pidu: Hope I can replace it. Maybe I should stock up on a variety.

Hard to argue with that plan. Clearly, they have unique tastes. I say find what you like, then stock up with that.
