Okay, I'm not sure what they are actually called, but I'm talking about the speed limit signs that clock you and tell you your speed underneath the speed limit sign.

Anyways, on the way into the office this morning. There's one there. So I think to myself:

"Self, let see what this little rice burner can do."

So I downshift and floor it. And I have a good mile from the toll plaza until this sign. And I'm flying, probably about to top out what this little Korean crap car can do.

And Bam. 65 mph????????????????????

Speedo was going higher than that.

So my question is. Have they stopped showing your speed after a certain number? Speed Limit was 55 mph, and this one stopped at 65 mph. Anyone else see anything like this?

Maybe you have a Lamborghini speedometer that's 10% higher than you're actually going. :) I've had one of those clock me at 85 coming into a construction zone on the interstate so they go at least that fast.

I've been clocked at 98 before, just not here in Florida.

135, but not in Florida.

Really screwed up the average statistics on that one.

Dave. You beat me to the Damn sign post. Home court advantage.

Of course being a computer guy, you can figure out how to post it faster than I can.

You guys drive too fast! :) Fastest I've been caught for was 65 in a 45 on Dale Mabry; cop was as cool as you could be in that situation I guess, wrote it out for 14 over.

Oh, I wasn't caught by the cops, just the radar detector sign thing. (Anyone know the real name of those things?)

16 miles in 8 minutes, including driving on Storrow Drive in Boston (emergency trip to hospital in 930 turbo). Pretty sure it's a record that won't be beaten in Boston (avg 120mph in downtown traffic).

Just the radar sign. Not caught for the 135.

How did you manage to get a clear enough shot to pull that off?! AND with no cops? That would be fun. I wish Festival's of Speed would get St. Pete to let exotic car drivers run the road course, that would be awesome blasting through downtown St. Pete.

Have you ever gotten out of a ticket for speeding on your way to a medical emergency?

They really should do that, make you sign a waiver before hand so you cant take them to court if you wreck. I guess its an insurance thing though, and the fact that downtown St. pete would have to be closed off. :headbang:

Well I passed that sign today at 61 and it said I was going 58. so it's 3 miles off. It must have some kind of a cap on it.

I agree with the St. Pete thing. I got Sanford to close there main road downtown once. I'll never do that again. Even going slow through there was hectic with all of the spectators walking through the street.

That's why you always see those out of the country rally race videos where cars are landing on top of spectators; guess they should have learned that an early apex is gonna slam the car into the inside edge of the turn. :)

Yes, all the time. It helps to 1) Be a doctor, 2) Actually be going to a medical emergency, and 3) Working in the OR, so that if the cops call the OR desk and ask, they will always say you are coming in for a medical emergency.

I've even gotten a 100+mph police escort before.

Now mind you, 20+ years of doing trauma, heart transplants, etc.. I've earned some of that, which I don't abuse.

No doubt, you should not have to be saddled by a speed limit if you're heading there for an emergency and you're driving safely.

How about the converse; have you ever been ticketed for speeding while going to an emergency? That would be BS.

there's one outside Melbourne Australia but the max speed it will display is like 117kph, specifically to stop folks like us trying to top it out. :p

No, but I do have a few friends who have. They typically just go to court and with proof of the emergency, they always get off. The judge usually gives a dirty look to the police officer.

BUT, if you aren't going to an emergency, piss off the cop, get a ticket, go to court and lie about the emergency (as one surgeon in town here did in a different state, who then found out that the cop checked and there was no emergency), you get convicted of perjury and get hosed.

So, if you get a ticket and were just playing, the better part of valor is to just eat the ticket.

all car speedos are not %100 accurate. some of the police scanners, i dont know what there called have it built in. it tells you your true speed.

Anyone know the real name of those things?Generically they are called a "Radar speed display".

As far as brand specific names, the company "RU2 Systems" sells models called "RU2 Fast".

And they can be used to figure out where in the future to place a real ticket writing cop or place a speed camera in order to get the most revenue possible. They are research devices for the pigs.

I like to see if they have three digits or not...

I've been lit up on my way to a medical emergency (patient was in the car, and was not breathing.) I didn't stop untill I got her into the ER. The cop shook my hand afterwords "good job son".

As some sort of strange coincidence, I was at a local neighborhood meeting with a CHP officer describing some features of the Radar speed displays. They do much more than flash your speed. They record all speeds along with time of day so the police agency knows when to go back and do enforcement....

That's some useful information. Never thought of them as data loggers. That's a great concept for figuring out when people speed in the area.
