__________

This spy video shows a suspicious Lamborghini Gallardo circling the Nurburgring, rumored to be a new entry level V8 model sporting the 4.2L motor from Audi’s R8. The key giveaway is the downsized exhaust pipes seen in previous spy shots. Onlookers also said the car ran noticeably quieter than the current V10, but we’ll let you be the judge.

Me personally, I wouldn't mind if they made a v8 version of it as long as the price was the same as the v10 version. If they are making this to appeal to the masses of the people I give up. I remember growing up you could only get a Mercedes if you were "super rich", now you can get one for $30k, the same price as a nissan altima. I still believe that hurt their brand. My wife can't tell a $30k c230 from a $120k cl. I hope lambo doesn't do this. :(

So, is this going to compete with Ferrar's new Dyno?

What would be the point of a smaller engine at the same price though? Until someone actually gets some real evidence the engine was a V8 and it's intended for a Lamborghini vehicle I'm just going to wait and see and hope it doesn't end up in a Lambo. High volume, of which the Gallardo is slowly but surely pushing them to already, would really hurt the exclusivity of the marque.

I don't disagree at all, if they made the v8 in addition to the v10 and made it super cheap so every factory worker in Arkansas (;)) could buy it, I would be upset with them and to me it would be brand suicide.

Oh please I hope they dont make this, I would prefer them to make a new Lambo SUV or a 2+2, but NOT a slower gallardo, :fgay:

Its the point, slower?
If that its a V8 with 560hp?

I think it would be less 'exotic' if they went V8, the cylinder displacement would end up growing and it would lose it's high redline and characteristic sound. So even if V8 brought more power with it, I'd probably still be opposed. I want my Ford GT (future talk :)) to have the big V8 sound, my Gallardo should have the small V10 sound.

This will dilute the brand even farther. Shit they already make too many Gallardo's. This will hurt our sell- a-bility as Gallardo owners for sure. Just think of the people that were on the fence on buying a Gallardo, now they can get a brand new one, that looks almost the same with a little less HP for $40k less? :bash: :wtf:

I hope they don't make it more accessable like Porsche. Porsches used to be a rare breed before the boxter, now they're a dime a dozen.

As shawn said, I really hope they dont do this, as its practically brand suicide. I like porsche 911turbos, and if i had the money I would buy one, but they're not as exclusive as they used to be, its more like "oh look, another porsche (continue what you were doing)". If lamborghini did the V8 and it was even more vastly produced than the current G, then lamborghini will go the same way. instead of "holy shit! a Lambo!" it will be, "oh cool, another lambo".

and thats not what lambo is. They're exclusive. only for the people that have made it. I think even though Audi has done a lot of good for lamborghini, that lamborghini should go semi-private again like Aston Martin.

That's certainly not a V8 exhaust note.

I imagine if they do make a V8 the MSRP would be around 150-165k

Perhaps it is not a V8 Gallardo at all but a test mule for a V8 model to come out, maybe a Jalpa or something. The Enzo test mule was a stretched 348. Gets everyone off of the trail of new models.

More useless stories about the V8 Gallardo:

http://jalopnik.com/cars/spy-photos/lamborghini-gallardo-v8-the-legend-continues-282774.php

At least they got it right this time:

Our Dutch buddies at AutoGespot posted a few new spy shots of that white Gallardo that's been spotted hither and thither. Eyewitnesses (or is that earwitnesses?) say the prototype sounds unlike the V10 -- with a distinctive exhaust burble -- and have therefore concluded it's powered by Audi's 4.2-liter FSI V8. We've heard an alternate theory this Lambo is actually a test mule for the V12 TDI version of the Audi R8. Either way, without a decent hear of this thing, we're saying nothing more.

I tried to add the comment:

First it's "Several V8 Gallardo test mules" then "The most likely power source is VW Group’s 4.2L FSI V8 borrowed from the Audi R8 but with slight modifications to give it a unique sound."

Umm, since you really have no clue unless you went over and counted the cylinders, maybe you should not report it as being a V8 Gallardo? But that wouldn't be any fun would it?

But they declined to add it. :lol2:

Audi is going to be responsible for the death of lamborghini. Come on a V-8 in a Gallardo? whats next.. a Hemi V-8 in a Viper!. hopefully this is some kind of joke from lambo.

I'm still hoping all these dumb theories are just :bs: No one has actually seen the engine, they just assume it's V8 since it sounds different.
